Hi! My name is Power! I'm one big Cane Corso! The humans at the shelter say that it is very important (and required!) for interested adopters to have knowledge of Cane Corsos and previous ownership experience. They really are just trying to set me up for success!
True to my breed, I am protective, but I am also very scared when I'm introduced to new people and new things. I will need to get to know you over several visits at the shelter. I do best with a very slow introduction to new people and new situations. Please do know, though, that once I trust you -- that bond is formed, and I am all in! I just need time and patience from you to get there.
Once we have gotten to know each other, I love to be outside if you are. Going for walks and galloping in a fenced-in area make me so happy. When we are taking a break, I like to lean into you for back scratches and will give you big slobbery kisses!
As far as other animals go, I still prefer a slow introduction. The humans here have noticed that I give what I get. For example, if an animal is super friendly, I am, too! If they are barky, I am, too! I have lived with kittens before. They were nice to me and I was nice to them! If your resident dog has a non-reactive temperament, I may do well! I also would be perfectly fine to be the only animal in my new home. I'd prefer adults only in my new home; older teenagers may be okay for me.
My knees aren't the greatest. There is some roughness in some parts of them. My vet friend suggested that I stay on carprofen - which is helping me! They also suggested that I may need to be re-evaluated for a possible cruciate repair, whether it be bilateral or singular, down the road.
My friends here are teaching me how to share and not keep my toys and food to myself. I'm starting to catch on so please continue to teach me when I come home with you!
I have bit someone before when I was scared and uncomfortable. I also may have been being overprotective, but I still wanted you to know that.
In my previous home, I did wonderful at being house-trained. I also wasn't destructive when I was left alone but am crate-trained! I really love car rides and am a cool guy!
If you fit the criteria that I am looking for in my new family, please call the shelter at (219) 872-4499 and ask to speak to Karen. Once you speak with her, they can schedule a time for you to meet me. Love, Power. ... See moreSee less
